Bulb planing

Every year children in Year 2 are invited go plant some bulbs in Victoria gardens.  On Friday we set off to get our hands dirty and get to work on the bulb planting.

Leaving Osprey Quay

Everyone hard at work.

We learnt that you have to make sure the little white tip is pointing upwards - this is where the flower will come out.

Lots of bulbs planted, we look forward to seeing them all in the spring.

Welcome to our toy library

We were so proud today when we opened the doors to our toy museum. All the children have worked incredibly hard this therm and it was great to have an end of term exhibition to showcase all the children's hard work.

Grown ups were invited into our base to come and look round our toy museum.

Children have produced a range of different exhibits with toys being made from 3D printed material, sewn from felt, using wood work skills, making 3D mash using purple mash and some moving figures in card.

Along side the exhibits all the pupils produces a poster for their toy made on pic collage and an information leaflet made using purple mash. The children have thoroughly enjoyed working using a  range of different resources avaliable to us in the classroom.

Here are a small sample of some of our exhibits.

Imagination Lab

On Monday pupils spent some time in IPACA Osprey Quays imagination lab. The imagination lab is one of the bases down at osprey Quay with numerous Design Technology resources available for children to use.

We were very luck to have some year 10 students come down to help us with our learning.

The children have been working hard to design toys, a challenge left by the toy maker when he visited kurt classroom last week.

We were in the imagination lab to use both the 3D printers and the woodwork facilities.

We were using TinkerCAD on the laptops to help design our toys, this was tricky and we were thankful of the support some of the year 10 pupils could offer us but after a while we were working on our own and were looking forward to printing the work out using the 3D printers.

It was very exciting watching our models printing on the printers.

Some of us chose to work using woodworking skills, luckily the year 10's helped us here as well, showing us how to safely use the different equipment available to us. It was so much fun to be able to bring our design to life in 3D.

We look forward to next term when we can work in the imagination lab again!

Purple mash

Today all children took home a log in for purple mash. This is a web based computer programme that children are currently using in the classroom to support learning.

In addition to using the software in the classroom it can also be used at home, below are some simple instruction to help you out.

To access purple mash you need to go via the main IPACA website. Once here along the top menu there is a tab that says purple mash - click this link

You will then arrive at a log in page that looks like this:

This is where you need your children's log in details. All pupils took home 2 login cards the one you are looking for is the purple one, as shown below.

Currently purple mash isn't supported on tablets so will only work on laptops or desktop computers, hopefully in time this software will be supported on a range of tablets.

A surprise Visitor!

Today we had a surprise visitor in our base. During lunchtime session it appears we had a visit form 'the Toymaker'! He left us lots of clues and eventually we discovered a note and a task that had been left by him asking us to design a toy for him as he was off on holiday (lucky him!)

We enjoyed the challenges set by him and got to work thinking about the different toys we could make in our classroom!
