Rocking around the Christmas Tree

Well what a fantastic afternoon we have had! To mark the end point of our IPC topic 'Let's celebrate' we invited parents, siblings, relatives and anyone else who wasted to attend, into our base for some Christmas carols.

It's always great to invite parent into our learning spaces, for them to see the work we have been producing this past half term and involve them in our topic work.

We sang a range of songs, from traditional Christmas Carols to some songs from our nativity show (If you missed today you can still hear out Christmas songs here).

We were pleased with such a great turn out and hope you all enjoyed the afternoon spend in West Base.

Christmas Baking project

As part of our Design Technology IPC work this term we have tested, designed and produced some traditional Christmas treats.

After the tough job of taste testing yule log, Christmas cake and mince pies pupils selected their favourite and started to design their treats. The creativity of our students never disappoints and we had a range of designs from glittery holly leaves to snow angels and penguins.

We then set to work producing our final treats. We were able to put into practise the measuring work we had been learning about in an earlier maths lesson and weighed out all the ingredients and started mixing, making and shaping.

The final results looked fantastic (even if we do say so ourselves) and we loved working on this project.

If you have been baking (or just sampling) traditional christmas treats please do let us know.

Christmas Cooking

After tasting some Christmas treats we have planned and made our own.

Some of us have made mince pies.

Some of us have made a Yule log.

Whilst some of use have made Christmas cakes that we will be icing.

Christmas Sing-a-long

Today at Osprey Campus we were joined by Southwell Campus Year 2 and Underhill Campus Year 4 for our Christmas sing-a-long, led by our Early Years music teacher Mrs Fryer. The children enjoyed singing with their friends from different campuses. We sat in our house groups.

                                  Southwell, Year 2 & Underhill, Year 4

We sang a range of songs from our various different Christmas productions, as well as some old favourites. During each performance some children came and supported Mrs Fryer with bells, shakers, silly hats and a nativity scene. The penultimate song caused a stir as some of the staff attempted to sing and dance along too.

Wren House & Anning House

It's party time.

This afternoon we were joined by some of our Year 2 friends from East base for our Christmas party. The children all brought in party clothes (a mass of excitement as many a sequin outfit and christmas jumper were put on after lunch).

The children had a great time making lots of different arts and crafts, from Snowflakes, to Christmas wreaths, snow shakers and Christmas angels.

We finished the day with party games and then some party food, kindly donated by everyone at the party. A massive thank you for everyones kind donations it really did help to produce a fantastic day.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

We have been busy decorating our christmas tree and thought we could use some of the great ICT facilities we are lucky to have at IPACA.

We had a visit from Mr Simmonds from IPACA Royal Manor Campus who came to help out with some DT work. We were creating our designs using Foldify, a great app on the iPads that let's you design nets to turn into 3D objects.

We all designed simple cubes but created christmassy designs. This was the easy bit, it was harder gluing the nets together to make the 3D cubes but we managed and were very pleased to see our finished work decorating one of the trees in our base.

We hope you like our decorations.

Show time!

We had our first performance of our Nativity show today and were very very proud of all the children who took part.

Here are some of the songs from our rehearsal practise, Sorry for the sound quality it's not the best but we hope you enjoy them.

And here we are ready for our first performance, everything from dancing sheep to shepherds and a full orchestra, what more can you ask for from a nativity performance!

We have been learning about division this week in our Maths lessons and really enjoyed the practical lessons that came with this topic.

Here we are sorting people into groups of equal size. It required a bit of sorting, arranging and problems solving but we managed it!
