Word play

We have been learning about word play in Literacy. Some children have been making posters for tourist attractions in our local area, using alliteration for their titles and creating short humorous captions.

We love using Pic Collage (an iPad app) to help with our learning. Here are some examples of the great work West Base Children have produced.

Our Topic focus this week has been History. West Base pupils homework has been to create our own timelines showing places we have visited throughout our lives.

We have had some fantastic results and are really pleased with the work pupils have done. It's not too late to do your timeline if you are still working on it.

Come and see some of the fantastic timelines for yourself in West Base

The History of the Seaside

Topic this week has focused on the history of the seaside. We have been comparing the lives of people now to those 100 years ago. What a difference! Did you know people didn't wear swimming costumes!

We have been using Purple Mash to show these differences.

Sports Day

We enjoyed some fun sports activities at Osprey Quay today. We were participating in our house teams and it was great fun cheering each other on.

Thanks to all the parents who came down to watch and supported us.

Cooking with our Chef

We had a great time cooking with Osprey Quays very own Chef the other week. We were weighing and measuring to make gifts for someone someone special in our lives.

Whilst we were cooking we looked chocolate melting and discussed how this was reversible. We also used our maths to measure capacity and weight. What a busy morning!

Splashing about

We have been looking at capacity and problem solving in our Maths this week. How many different ways can we make 50ml using different containers. What about 500ml or even 1000ml. It was very tricky accurately measuring different liquids but we had a great time learning outside in the great weather.

Magic Potions

In maths we have been looking at capacity.

Some of our pupils had some unusual ingredients to mix together. Imagine making a potion from snake Venom, water from a magic wishing well, Llama spit and water from a sea with no life!

Working out what we have to measure out.

Making some calculations.

Some accurate measuring.

A reply from The Roald Dahl Museum

I opened my letter to see what it said, it told me some of the answers to my questions.

I read my letter and it said that Melanie hoped I will enjoy Roald Dahl's books.

Today has been all about Performance poetry. Luckily we have more than enough drama queens in West Base to produce a great performance.

We hope you enjoy this poem 'Surrounded by Noise' by Ian Outer

Well what a night!

This evening we celebrated the first ever IPACA Academy awards. We cannot say thank you enough to everyone for taking the time and making the effort to attend. But the biggest thank you needs to go to the children for all their hard work, from making the videos, to ushering people to their seats, reporting and tweeting news from the evening and even making sure all out guests were fed - serving them canap├ęs!

We wanted to share with you some pictures hot off the press from the red carpet. I think you will agree everyone looked amazing!
