Donkeys come to visit

Last week we were lucky enough to have some Donkeys come and visit. It was great learning about the donkeys and meeting them.

Tiffany And Millie have shared some facts they learnt.

Their names are Coco and Gracie and their ages are 11, 9, 6, 7.
They need to have the right size people like 3 to 16.
They need to be very looked after by special people who they feel comfortable with.
They are scared of loud noises and they do there business a lot.
They need to be eating the right food and there water at the right time.

KidsMeet

Today we were lucky enough to be invited to St Osmunds School in Dorchester for a KidsMeet.

We had to present some of our best ICT tools to other children and teach them how to use the different equipment. We also had the chance to learn about the best bits from other schools.

It was great fun sharing ideas. Here are some comments from our pupils:

"Our Day Out At Kids Meet. It was really fun. I found out about unity to make games and a green/blue screen app called Vee Scope. I also Found a website called Machinima.
There was also a game/programming app called Kodu racing and Scratch." Solomon

We are looking for a new principal

IPACA are currently seeking a new principal. We were very excited to have been asked this afternoon what we would like from a new Principal. It's great to know our fantastic pupils are being listened to and they came up with some brilliant suggestions.

First we made a Wordle with all the fantastic suggestions the children made.

Then we created a video, this was directed by the children and they were very keen to use the green screen we have up in the library, so we did!

We are looking forward to meeting some of the candidates!

West Base: This Week we are learning...

We are looking forward to another great week of learning in West Base this week.

Our topic this term is Working Animals and we will be continuing this theme in our afternoon sessions.

In literacy this week will will be focusing on Fiction Writing. We will be writing short stories and hope to share with you some super results.

Maths will see us focusing on inverse operations and multiplication.

We are looking forward to sharing some great successes with you over the coming week

Raymond Briggs stories

In West Base 2 we have been looking at Raymond Briggs stories. He has written some very well known stories, often as graphic novels, many of which have been turned into short animated films.

We have had fun acting out some of the scenes from Ug Boy Genius of the Stone Age, as well as The Man. Here we are playing different characters at different points in the story.

Ug and his family sleep under stone bedding as it's the 'stone age'.
We acted out the scene where Ug and his Mum are talking about food that has been cooked.

Here we are acting the scene from 'The Man' where the boy is rudely awaken in the morning by sweets being thrown at his head.
We are thinking about a stone age breakfast.

Rex is clearing up after 'The Bear' - Joe - who has messed up the bedroom.

Lucy and Ethan are acting the scene where Ug and his friends have play a game of 'stone age' football, they got very sweaty!

Film Stars

West Base pupils had the excitement of sharing their learning space with a film crew this week.

It's always a great experience when any visitor comes in to look around out school but when they bring a film crew even better!

It was fun to learn some filming tips from the professionals and it's always such a proud moment to hear our pupils speaking in such a mature way.  Well done all.

Working Animals: Guide Dogs

This week our topic and literacy theme has been focusing on Guide Dogs, we have learnt about different ways to care for the, the training they must undertake and the skills they need.

One of our tasks this week was to make a Wanted poster for a guide dog. We had to think carefully about the skills a guide dog must have to be a great working animal.

Here we are making the most of some of the great learning spaces in West Base...

...and is some of our fantastic work, we hope you like it.

Purple Mash Computer Science

This afternoon we have been using the learning platform Purple Mash. Pupils use Purple Mash across many different curriculum areas and it's a fantastic way to use our digital technology. All pupils can access Purple Mash at home.

Today's task was to create an algorithm to draw a 2D shape. We had to use our maths knowledge and programming skills to make sure we drew the correct shape.

It was fun to write our own programs, test them and then debug, to ensure we had a working piece of code.

Our star challenge was to draw our initial letter.

This afternoon we have been making the most of the glorious weather outside. Pupils have been using clay to create their own working animals and using a variety of mixed media to create a background scene.

It was great fun working outside and we look forward to sharing out finished product with you all.

What are they up to?

Find out on Friday, 24 April at 3pm.
